MySQL |
The Infamous MySQL is definetely my favourtie database toolkit available today. Shiped with Fedora Linux, RHEL, Suse, Mandrake, Ubuntu (get it from ubuntu's repository). This baby is fast, secured, stable and provides very good support via it's website through it's community of developers. Tutorials are not hard to find and it's Enterprise version (though commercial) is indeed is priceless. I find it very useful and an internet survery carried out by our team estimates about 38 percent of webdevelopers today using MySQL as their database toolkit. |

MySQL's superb compactibility with PHP and the APACHE webserver has made web development in the open source community as easy as "ABC". Developers coined this union LAMP - Linux - Apache - MySQL - PHP in the open source community and indeed, it leaves up to our expectation. |

PostgreSQL |
| |
Usually shiped with Linux Distributions Like RHEL and Fedora, PostgreSQL is a standard open source supported database toolkit for developers. It's easy to use, quite stable and you can sure tuss it up to make it as secure as any commercial database toolkit available today.

Postgre is another Structural Query Language toolkit that sooths database development in grand style. The fact that it's open source support is tremendeous makes it one good reason to try out and speed up it's development. |

Oracle |
| |
Every database Guru and I.T enthusiasts know or have heard about this database giant. For years now, Oracle has had the reputation as the world's best database toolkit and is used by many industry giants for obvious reasons. Linux versions, Mac versions and Windows versions are available. I last Used oracle 10g. Keep an eye on this baby anyday anytime. It's smooth, safe, upto speed and stable. Though not entirely open source, the source code for Unix or Unix like O.S's can be downloaded via Oracle's website. |

Sybase |
| |
Providers of one of the world's best database toolkits. Sybase sets a standard when it come to the world of databases. It can be ported to many Operating systems and this application is stable and fast and also ranks amongst the most secured database toolkits available today. |

Getting Updates |
| |
It's always usefull to check for updates on any database applications you choose to use especially if they are open source tools. With the fast development of many open source applications, it's very usefull to check for patches or bugs discovered by developers (usually in the community of users) so as to enhance security features of that particular tool or application. This also helps to keep you informed on the latest advancement of security breaches and possible loop holes you could encountern using such application. |
